Printful Poster Guide: How I Created and Published My First Framed Art Print
Looking to sell your art without worrying about printing or shipping?
In this blog post, I’ll walk you through the entire process of creating a framed poster using Printful – from choosing the product and uploading your artwork, to solving DPI issues and publishing the final product to your store.
📌 Why I Started
I’ve been creating AI art using Midjourney, and I wanted to see if I could turn that digital artwork into a real product. Instead of printing at home, I chose Printful – a print-on-demand platform that automatically fulfills and ships orders when someone buys from my store. Perfect for Etsy!
🖼️ Step 1: Choosing the Product
After signing up at Printful.com, I browsed their catalog and searched for “Framed Poster.”
I selected the Enhanced Matte Paper Framed Poster (8×10") – a small but very popular format for wall art.
🎨 Step 2: Creating the Artwork (Midjourney)
I used this prompt on Midjourney to create my art:
A dreamy sunset mountain landscape with blue pine trees and a glowing sun, nature wall art style, minimalist and peaceful --ar 4:5 --v 6 --style raw
Important: Since 8x10" = 4:5 ratio, I used --ar 4:5
in my prompt.
📈 Step 3: Upscaling the Image
To get the image print-ready, I used Upscayl (free and open-source) to upscale the resolution to at least 2400×3000px (300 DPI recommended).
📥 Step 4: Uploading to Printful
- Uploaded the PNG to Printful’s design editor
- Made sure the DPI was at least 150 (mine was 246 DPI ✅)
- Aligned the image within the Safe Print Area
- Previewed the framed poster mockup – looked great!
💵 Step 5: Setting the Price and Product Info
- Product title: Stay Wild – Framed Nature Art Print
- Size: 8x10 inch
- Frame color: Black
- Price: $ 20~40 (Printful cost)
🚀 Step 6: Publishing
After saving the product, I clicked Publish to push it to my store.
If you haven't connected Etsy or Shopify yet, you can still save it as a product template for now.
📝 Final Thoughts
Honestly, I was surprised how easy it was. Just a few steps and I had a real, shippable product based on my own AI art.
Next, I’ll try applying the same design to t-shirts or mugs!
