How I Track My Job Applications (Using Notion)

How I Track My Job Applications

When I started applying for jobs, I thought I could remember everything.
I was wrong. Really wrong.

😵 Job Search Chaos, At First...

In the beginning, I applied to jobs here and there—LinkedIn, company websites, Indeed...

But after 10+ applications, things got messy fast:

  • Did I already apply to this company?
  • Did they reply or ghost me?
  • Was that interview next Monday… or last Monday?

My brain couldn't keep up. I needed help.

That’s when I decided to make my own Job Application Tracker in Notion.

Why Notion?

I was already using Notion for to-do lists and study notes.
It felt natural to expand it for job applications too.

Why I love it:

  • Easy to customize
  • Clean interface
  • Tagging, filtering, sorting = lifesaver
  • It's free!

✅ Step 1: What I Track

I created a Notion table database with these key columns:

FieldDescription
CompanyName of the company
PositionJob title I applied for
LinkDirect link to job post
StatusApplied / Interviewing / Offer / Rejected
Applied DateWhen I submitted the application
Interview DateScheduled date (if any)
NotesExtra info: recruiter name, interview prep
Priority ★1–3 stars to mark how much I want the job

✨ Bonus: I use colors and icons for status—it makes it feel fun.

✅ Step 2: How I Use It Daily

  • 🚀 When I apply: I immediately add the job to the table
  • 📅 Every morning: I check my “Interview Soon” filter view
  • 💬 If I get a reply: I update the status to “Interviewing”
  • 📉 If rejected: Yep, I log that too (you’ll thank yourself later)

It becomes my daily dashboard—a calm place in the chaos of job hunting.

🔄 Step 3: Filters, Views, and Tags = Magic

I created custom views in Notion:

  • 🟢 Upcoming Interviews – only shows jobs with future dates
  • Top Picks – shows jobs with 2+ stars
  • 🗓️ Timeline View – visualize all applications by week

Each view helps me focus on what matters today—not yesterday’s clutter.

😌 How It Helped Me Mentally

Before the tracker, I felt scattered and reactive.
After building it, I felt in control.

  • No more duplicate applications
  • No missed interviews
  • I could see my progress—even when I hadn’t heard back

And on hard days, looking at 20+ logged applications reminded me:
"Hey, you're actually putting in the work."

💡 Tips If You’re Making Your Own

  • Start small — just 3–4 columns at first
  • Use emojis or tags to make it visually fun
  • Add a “Follow-Up Needed” tag to remind yourself to email recruiters
  • Don’t be afraid to customize it for your own flow!

🔚 Final Thoughts

Job hunting can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re juggling multiple applications.
But with a simple Notion tracker, you can turn the mess into a method.

It’s not magic—but it kind of feels like it.
